For 57 years, Base-Line has been dedicated to solving the graphic arts industry’s pre-press and pressroom problems with high quality, innovative products and outstanding customer service.
R. P. Coolidge, the inventor of the ‘pre-ruled’ masking sheet, founded our company in 1948. Over the years, several other product lines for the graphic arts market have been added including cleanup sheets and pre-press plastics
In the fall of 1995, Base-Line acquired REL Graphic Arts Products, which expanded the product line to include laser plates, a line of pressroom chemicals, and graphic arts pens. In early 1996, the CTP deletion pen was introduced. The pen is designed to remove images from CTP, long-run and fast-exposure metal plates. Later that same year, TRC (Total Release Compound) was added to the pressroom chemistry line, an ink additive that improves the transfer of ink from the printing blanket to the press sheet.
In the spring of 1998, Base-Line launched two new lines of masking sheets: Pre-Ruled Orange Vinyl Masking Sheets and Metric Ruled Goldenrod Paper Masking Sheets. Base-Line also introduced a new pen, the Long Run Addition Pen, the perfect companion to the CTP Deletion Pen. In the fall of 1998, Base-Line released a new improved version of Laser Direct polyester laser plates and introduced an electrostatic addition/deletion combo pen and a fountain solution for metal and silver plates.
Base-Line, in 1999, acquired the graphic arts product line of Jomac, which included knitted roller covers, dampener sleeves, pressroom gloves and Ryno® roller.
In March 2004, Base-Line was sold to Howard Harper. Keeping with its long tradition, the company remained in private hands. Big changes for the company soon followed. Corporate offices were moved from Auburn, Washington to Shelton, Connecticut and the three manufacturing/distribution locations were consolidated into one in Gurnee, IL.
In 2005 Base-Line formed three strategic partnerships:
On January 1, 2005, Base Line, Inc. became the exclusive distributor of Appleton masking paper. All sales, marketing and order taking have become Base Line’s sole responsibility.
Also in the first half of 2005, exclusive agreements were signed with two other companies. Hartman Plastics, a foamboard manufacturer and Technicote, a pressure sensitive manufacturer. Base-Line became an exclusive distributor of their products to the graphic arts industry.
Base-Line sells through a network of authorized dealers in the United States, Canada, Australia, Latin America, South America, Japan, the Netherlands, Germany and the Caribbean.
